Don and Joyce started the Greater Seattle Senior Games in 1999 and Joyce was Washington State Coordinator for the National Senior Games for 6 years. Joyce has competed in Senior Badminton for 27 years and won 290 National, International Senior Olympics and World Senior Badminton titles in the past 30 years. She has been director of badminton for 30 years and earned more badminton titles than any other American player ever. Joyce and Don ran a juniors program, coaching juniors for 20 years. The Jones’ were P.I. Sports Family of the Year in 1975.
Don Jones has competed in Senior Tennis for 30 years. He was PNW Men’s Doubles Champion with George Darrow for 7 concurrent years and ran tennis tournaments for 25 years. When Don was not on the badminton or tennis courts, he was umpiring baseball and officiating basketball and football for 28 years.
Joyce and Don have always believed that playing sports is instrumental in learning to play by the rules, learning to get along with teammates, learning sportsmanship and learning to play fair. They have always tried to encourage others to participate in athletics, because they believe that sports enrich people’s lives.

Board Review Process
The NWSG Board of Directors will review all nominations and select one athlete from each event to be recognized. The selected athletes are placed in a final round where one will be selected to recieve the Flash Inspiration Award. Award criteria includes: 1) the total number of votes recieved and 2) the reason why the nominee deserves the award.
Sport Commissioners Make Nominations
Do you know an athlete who inspires you? Tell your sport commissioner who that is and why they inspire you. Nominations can be submitted in writing, by e-mail or phone your nomination into your commissioner by May 30, 2010.
