Our Mission
The mission of the Northwest Senior Games is to promote healthy lifestyles, physical activity, fitness, and provide a positive image for people age 50 years and better through participation in positive athletic competitions that promote healthy aging and venues for social engagement.
The Northwest Senior Games (NWSG) is an incorporated not-for-profit organization whose Board of Directors is made up of citizens age 50+ and representatives from 7 city agencies that specialize in recreation and community service for people 50+. The Northwest Senior Games began in 1998 as the Greater Seattle Senior Games, in close partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation. Today, the NWSG is a broader collaborative effort through a partnership with the cities of Redmond, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Bellevue, Shoreline and Seattle. People who participate in the NWSG live throughout King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties and beyond. The NWSG will provide more than 15 sport events including track and field, ice hockey, pickleball, swimming, tennis, badminton, table tennis, kayaking, softball, basketball and more.
The NWSG is affiliated with the Washington State Senior Games, whose Board works closely with the National Senior Games Association and Washington State’s other local Senior Games to insure quality and coordination.
The NWSG provides opportunities for athletes to compete and is open to anyone age 50 or better who meets the eligibility criteria. Those of us with the NWSG hope to achieve three outcomes: 1) to provide opportunities for the participants to increase physical activity and competitive experience while having fun; 2) to encourage people to age in healthy ways and guide them to information and opportunities to do so; and 3) to increase participation in, and encourage development of, senior sport leagues and other 50+ competition year round.
